How to Know If Glasses Fit: My Simple Checklist

I wore ill-fitting glasses for years before I learned how to know if glasses fit properly. Now I have a simple checklist I use every time I try on frames.

The Face Width Test

Frames should not extend beyond the widest part of your face. When I look in the mirror, the frame edges should align with or sit just inside my face width. If they stick out, they're too wide.

The Eye Position Check

My eyes should be centered in the lenses, both horizontally and vertically. If my eyes are too high, low, or off to one side, the frames don't fit properly.

The Bridge Test

The bridge should rest comfortably on my nose without:

The Temple Check

Temples should:

• Rest gently on my ears without squeezing

• Angle downward slightly after my ears

The Movement Test

I shake my head gently. Properly fitting glasses should stay in place without sliding or shifting. If they move, something's wrong with the fit.

The Comfort Test

I wear the glasses for at least 5-10 minutes. Properly fitting frames should feel comfortable the entire time - no pressure points, no sliding, no adjusting needed.

My Final Check

If glasses pass all these tests, they fit. If they fail even one, I keep looking. Proper fit is non-negotiable for comfortable all-day wear.
