Some degree of swelling is natural following surgery, but a variety of effective strategies can help to promote quicker tissue repair and feel more comfortable.
Keep your head higher than your heart, even when lying down. Use extra pillows to raise your head above your heart—this minimizes edema in the treated zones.
Second, apply cold compresses gently to the swollen regions during the initial few days. Avoid direct contact between ice and your skin. Healing is gradual, and full resolution can take up to 3–6 months, depending on the surgery.
Refrain from applying pressure or scratching the treated zones, and use sunscreen or cover the area when outdoors.
