No the real problem with the Wii U is its presence. It's not a system that many people feel an urge to have no matter what. That's a problem that's only been exasperated since the release of the PS4 and Xbox One. While both those systems are more expensive than the Wii U, their expanded entertainment offerings, obvious technical superiority and greater variety of games available, make them not only more sensible overall purchases for many, but more exciting ones as well.

Each level grants a purple gem/swirly-thing and these are used to buy equipment abilities. Once committed there's no taking the gems back until trashing the item, at which point they're refunded in full. Level one is one gem, two is usually two gems, etc, but there are also rare powerful abilities that get more expensive. I held on to the Harp Bow longer than practical thanks to it not only shooting five arrows per shot but also having a chance of an arrow dividing into another five on hit, despite how expensive it was to power up. That kind of crowd control is worth saving up for, after all, but there's always going to be more loot later that will finally make swapping out an irresistible prospect.

The Wii U doesn't inspire that same impulse purchase instinct. While playing the right game on one with friends is generally considered to be a good time, unlike the Wii it's gimmick isn't quite as viscerally satisfying. It doesn't really grab you. It's a system that shares many of the same shortcomings as the Wii, but has little of its charm or raw appeal.

What? A game from the music genre is number one? Didn't everybody stop caring about those years ago and only think of them when they stumble upon a plastic instrument somewhere in the back of their closet? Yes, that's very true, but I find that as the years go on, I look at the music genre more and more fondly, and miss it's contributions and capabilities.

It is not necessary, but it is a fun little way to use the various workstations in the game and a great starting point for gamers looking to get into Redstone. enbentz games on YouTube have a simple, but effective, tutorial for creating a Block Swapper in Minecra

The only rules here are the game can't be a shooter (obviously) and have to be on a current gen system, or be a PC game released roughly between 2006 and 2013. That type of timeframe means a lot of great had to be cut and, to help make those decisions, I really tried to focus on games that provided a multiplayer experience you couldn't get prior to this generation. However, some exceptions do apply.

While Mojang may in fact be too busy at the moment to make that a reality, let's be very clear about something. If Nintendo had really wanted Minecraft on the Wii U, it would be in the works or out already. That's not to say it would be easy to make happen, but ultimately they are the kind of company that can make something like that a reality if they really wanted to.

You may notice, at least as my personal preferences go, that many of the games which don't encourage you to gun your friends down, instead emphasize actually working with them. Nowhere is this more obvious than the multiplayer in Minecraft.

The story also deserves notice. Minecraft New Zealand DLC itself might not have as intense of a story, but Telltale was able to grab some of the more important factors of Minecraft and create a lore to follow and better understand what the characters with. Previously, your goal was to mine for enough materials and minerals to make a portal to the End to slay the Ender Dragon. Now, that story doesn't necessarily apply to everyone, because the ones who slayed the Ender Dragon were the members of the Order of the Stone. The members are essentially the people that you would have normally gone to the End with to help you fight the dragon, so it almost makes it seem like you were some kind of legendary hero for being able to do that if you were able to do so in the past. Everyone else in the episode doesn't have that same goal and, funny enough, don't look at all like the villagers that you sometimes wander upon in the original game. The storytelling and characters leave you with enough of an impression that leaves you waiting in anticipation for the next episode. You begin to make connections with your friends and build a relationship with them in the span of one single episode so it leaves you wanting to know what will come next for this party of builders.

Updated February 22, 2025 by Ben Painter: The latest major update, Tricky Trials, has been released for some time now. Gamers can head back into their worlds to explore older features and build up their worlds. A great way to do this is to start on some easy Redstone contraptions that will make life easier in the game. Some of the ideas in this list are insanely easy to

An Item Sorting system can be of great benefit, and it isn't too difficult to work through on a small scale. It is when this is done for every item in the game that the real difficulty lies. The idea is that the items are put into one chest and then filtered down to chests that already have one of those items inside of them. It involves a lot of hoppers and Redstone, but worth it for saving time for the serious Minecraft player. Voltrox talks through this build over on YouTu
